ADOPTION AND FOSTER PROGRAM
Washington D.C. Area, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina

Phoenix Landing operates an adoption program which covers the Washington D.C. region, as well as most of Maryland and Viriginia. In addition, we have coordinators in North Carolina (Asheville and Charlotte). Some support is also available in the Raleigh Durham area, eastern Tennessee, the Greenville-Spartanburg area of South Carolina, and southern Pennsylvania.

We strive to find the best possible home for every bird in need.   If you can offer a parrot a safe and loving environment, good nutrition, and a family to call its flock - then we would like to hear from you.  Your patience and compassion may be required depending on each circumstance, but every bird is truly worthwhile and special.

In addition, we are always in search of nurturing and experienced people to provide foster care support on a regular basis ~ people we can count on to help a bird temporarily, until a more permanent home can be found.

If you are at a time in your life when it is not possible to give a parrot a long-term home, fostering  may be a great option for you and the parrots who often quickly need our help.

An application, home visit, adoption fees and attendance at one of our comprehensive parrot care seminars are required for adoptions.

Do you really want a parrot?

It will change your life.

RELINQUISHING A PARROT

If your parrot needs a new home, please fill out the questionnaire below and e-mail it to us at phoenixlanding@earthlink.net or mail it to PO Box 1233, Asheville, NC 28802.

We try to help just as quickly as possible; however, there are often many parrots coming into our care and we like to insure that each new home is just right for each bird. If your bird can stay with you until this home is found, this will help greatly.

If we are assuming responsibility for your parrot, here are the things we need to know.
Parrot Questionnaire (in Excel, if you can e-mail it to us)
Parrot Questionnaire (in PDF, if you are mailing it)

BIRD-SITTING

If you take a vacation or go on a business trip, it can be hard to find someone with specific knowledge about parrots to care for your bird while you are away.

Please email us at phoenixlanding@earthlink.net for more information.  If available, we will connect you with someone who has joined our network from your geographic region.   It will be up to the two parties to work out arrangements regarding location, transport, costs, availability, and capability.   Phoenix Landing does not manage the bird-sitting process or endorse the providers in this network.  We are a connection service only.

If you take someone else's bird into your home, we urge everyone to be conscious of health issues and to insure proper vet care and quarantine, so as to reduce the risk of possible disease.

If you are interested in joining our parrot-sitting network, please e-mail us with your name, address, phone number and a small paragraph about your experience or knowledge regarding the care of birds.  This network is only as strong as the people who are part of it.

Bird-sitting is also a way to donate to Phoenix Landing, if you have more time than money.  Consider donating your bird-sitting fees to us.  Thank you!

Phoenix Landing makes no warranty, express or implied, about the quality of care your bird will receive or the qualifications of the bird sitter.  Phoenix Landing assumes no liability from any actions stemming from the bird-sitter or the bird-sitting experience. The bird-sitting network is simply a database of people willing to provide services, and it is the bird owner's responsibility to thoroughly evaluate potential bird-sitters. Please make sure you insure the health and safety of your birds and their care.
