PREPARE FOR YOUR PARROT'S FUTURE

Bringing a parrot into our home is a serious and significant decision.  Parrots can live a long time, and they are not always easy.  We must make this decision with a sense of commitment.  We are responsible for our decisions.

We ask our birds to live as our pets in a cage instead of flocking, foraging, and flying free.   In turn, they ask and need us to assume a lifestyle that provides them with quality nutrition and enrichment.   It is a daunting challenge for both companions -- the human and the parrot.

In the best of circumstances, we are able to care for these intelligent birds with knowledge, respect, compassion and resources for their whole lives.  However, many parrots live for decades and our lives are not always predictable.  So it is wise to prepare for our parrot's future, with or without us.

WHEN PARROTS NEED NEW HOMES

  • Some parrots are not able to keep their homes with their human companions.  Sometimes people find the challenge of living with a parrot overwhelming or their lives take unexpected changes.  Phoenix Landing operates an adoption program to help find these parrots a new and committed long-term home.  Other birds live in neglect in houses and stores.  Phoenix Landing acts as an advocate for these birds, seeking to improve their lives or find them a better place.  But if a parrot has a good and healthy home, we hope you will consider not relinquishing your cherished companion. No relationship is perfect, and everyone goes through periods of stress or difficulty.

  • Large parrots may live many years beyond their guardians.  We must prepare for this possibility and ensure that our birds have a trusted place to go, should we die or not be able to provide proper care.  Prepare for your parrot's future.  Establish a trust fund or small insurance policy, make arrangements in your will, and tell the people closest to you what your birds http://www.professorbeyer.com/Articles/Animals.htm

HOW PHOENIX LANDING CAN HELP

Phoenix Landing was created to help people with these situations.  We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to the quality of life for parrots.  We re-home parrots and help them to find a new family. This process is coupled with a robust education program, giving our adopters many tools to help everyone succeed. For more information about our adoption program, go to:
